A detailed concept for a family holiday home along the Tuscan coast reimagines the grounds as a series of interconnected outdoor rooms. Each space has its unique character but is unified by a Mediterranean planting palette suitable for the maritime pine forests and sandy soils of the Maremma coastline.

The design integrates every part of the property, from the driveway and main parking to an arrival courtyard, gravel garden, and a series of terraces at the rear—guest, fire pit, dining, and kitchen—each flowing into the next to promote easy indoor-outdoor living. A zen garden and knot garden offer tranquil, contemplative spots, while a bocce court and outdoor pool proposed for future construction provide areas for recreation and relaxation. A rooftop terrace and hot tub maximize views over the surrounding pine woods.

Planting features drought-tolerant Mediterranean species: Cistus, rosemary, and myrtle for structure and aroma; silvery Phlomis and Tanacetum for texture; and romantic accents from Rosa banksiae, Gaura, and Iris pallida. Architecturally, Melianthus and Romneya coulteri’s white poppies add drama, while Erigeron karvinskianus softens gravel and paved areas with natural, self-seeding growth.
